Moving with the military

Moving with the military is considered a PCS. A PCS is a permanent change of station. Sometimes these moves are a few states away.. and other times they lead you to a whole new country! There is a lot involved with military moves. Orders change, you have to look for a new place to live, and uprooting your family is never easy. The number one way to PCS with the least amount of stress is to stay organized.

stay Organized with a pcs binder

Have you ever heard of a PCS binder? It is hands down one of the best ideas for military families to keep on hand at all times. Similar to a deployment binder, a PCS binder is going to keep you organized and sane. You want to keep a copy of your change of station orders, your receipts, and any travel itinerary among other things. PCS binders are a good idea no matter how you choose to move with the military. There are two types of military moves, one where the military takes care of moving all of your things for you, and the other is a DITY. Both have their pros and cons for sure.

military movers

Oh the horror stories on military movers. Sure, they provide all the supplies, pack your stuff, and ship t wherever you're headed, but that just might be where the benefits end.. You still have to keep up with a few weeks worth of supplies so that your family can survive while you're waiting on all of your home goods to be delivered. No, they don't come the day you move in. Most families wait weeks for their personal belongings to show up.

The worst part of military movers? A lot of things get broken when the military moves you, and some things even go missing. I KNOW, that is absolutely ridiculous, but it happens. If you're having the military move you, then you want to include a list of all valuables in your PCS binder. With your list make sure to include serial numbers, and consider taking pictures as well. You want to be able to identify exactly what is missing, and have the military compensate you.

DITY moves

DITY moves are do it yourself moves. You're in charge of packing all of your things, loading them up, and transporting them to your next duty station. I recommend these for families that are staying stateside. You can check out this website for DITY calculators to see how much the military would pay you to move yourself. Those that are going overseas should opt for a military move to avoid outrageous fees involved with shipping all of their home goods overseas.

Moving yourself has its benefits for sure. You don't spend weeks waiting for your furniture to be delivered. You have the freedom of packing everything yourself, or paying for a moving company to help you. The downside to moving yourself is the fact that you have to initially pay for things out of pocket and wait to be reimbursed. That isn't an option for some families. If you can afford to move yourself, then take the plunge! We made enough money on our last move that we absolutely had the funds to hire professional movers.

Gameday Moving Services

If you're in the market for a moving company, I absolutely recommend Gameday Moving Services. They're the full package when it comes to a moving company. They offer office moves and residential moves. If you need someone just to pack your stuff, or just to lift the heavy furniture then they can still help you out! They have full-package type services where they'll take care of everything for you, but they know that sometimes you just want someone to do part of the moving process.

When it comes to my stuff, I like to oversee the packing side of things. I could still hire Gameday Moving Services to pack the moving truck for me and trust that they would take care of all of my personal belongings. Their reputation speaks for itself with all of the 5-star reviews that you can read on their website.

If you're due for a PCS and you're a military entrepreneur, then you can request Gameday Moving Services for your office move. They offer Athens GA Commercial Office Moving to help keep you stress-free. They're seriously everything that you could wish for when they military throws a PCS on you!
