Things to Know About Fort Bragg

If you find yourself with orders to Fort Bragg, then you’re headed to one of the largest military bases in the world!

Being from North Carolina, I decided to give some insight into the town of Fayetteville, and to share a few things to know about Fort Bragg!

Housing at Fort Bragg

As I mentioned above, Fort Bragg is a huge military base. With the extensive influx of families, housing has had to expand off base.

There are a lot of options for families that want to find their own housing as well. Whether you’re looking to rent or buy a home, popular communities include the following places: Pine Hurst, Hope Mills, Southern Pines, Sanford, and Raeford.

Rentals properties come and go quickly. Don’t get your hopes up looking too far ahead at somewhere to stay because it will probably be gone before you get there!

Places to eat nearby

Whenever you officially make it to Fort Bragg you’ll find out that North Carolina takes East coast feast coast very seriously. You can eat good and support a number of family owned businesses in the area.

Italian food? Check out Luigi’s. Their baked ziti is so delicious.

Authentic Mexican food? Head over to Taqueria Las Delicias. Catherine over at Organically Catherine swears by the steak burritos!

Wanting a more americanized Mexican cuisine? Check out El Cazador and their family-owned tequila.

Day trip ideas

Being stationed at Fort Bragg puts you only a few hours away from some major cities.

If you’re looking for downtown adventures, then you’re in luck. Raleigh, North Carolina’s capital is only an hour away. You can also make it to Charlotte, NC in two and a half hours. Both cities offer extensive downtown scenery.

Fort Bragg is in a wonderful area for anyone that loves the beach bum life. There are a few closer beaches, but heading over to Wilmington only takes two hours. With thirty minutes more you can make it to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.

Are you more of a mountains enthusiast? No problem! North Carolina has both. Jump in the car for a quick three hour ride, and you’ll find yourself in Boone, NC.

I think like any military installation, your time at your duty station will only be what you make of it. No, not everything is perfect. If you sit inside and choose to dwell on the few things that you don’t like, then you’ll never enjoy yourself. If you head out into the local town, you’re sure to find something positive about where you are!
